1.3 · The Way We Work
Equal Employment Opportunity
The Company is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with applicable law, we prohibit discrimination and harassment against employees, applicants for employment, individuals providing services in the workplace pursuant to a contract, unpaid interns, and volunteers based on their actual or perceived:
- Race, including traits historically associated with race such as hair texture and protective hairstyles
- Religion, including religious dress and grooming practices
- Color
- National origin or ancestry
- Physical or mental disability or medical condition
- Genetic information
- Marital status
- Sex and gender, including pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and related medical conditions
- Gender identity and gender expression, including individuals who are transitioning, have transitioned, or are perceived as transitioning to the gender with which they identify
- Age (40 and over)
- Sexual orientation
- Military and veteran status
- Any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law
These categories are referred to throughout this Handbook as "protected characteristics." Protections derive from the Florida Civil Rights Act of 1992, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws.
The Company also prohibits discrimination, harassment, and disrespectful or unprofessional conduct based on the perception that a person has any protected characteristic, or based on association with a person who has or is perceived to have any of those characteristics. The Company does not retaliate or otherwise discriminate against applicants or employees who request a reasonable accommodation related to disability, religion, or pregnancy. The Company also prohibits retaliation against individuals who raise complaints of discrimination or harassment or who participate in workplace investigations.
Our commitment to equal opportunity employment applies to everyone involved in our operations and prohibits unlawful discrimination and harassment by any employee, including supervisors and coworkers. All such conduct violates Company policy.
Pay discrimination between employees of the opposite sex, or between employees of different races or ethnicities, who perform substantially similar work is prohibited under the federal Equal Pay Act, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the Florida Civil Rights Act, and Florida Statutes Section 448.07. Pay differentials may be valid in certain situations defined by law. Employees will not be retaliated against for inquiring about or discussing wages. The Company is not, however, obligated to disclose the wages of other employees.
