Overtime
There may be occasions when overtime work is necessary to meet the needs of our patients. Although advance notice will be given when feasible, this is not always possible. Nonexempt employees must obtain approval for all overtime in advance, and working unauthorized overtime may result in discipline. Consistent with the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and Florida law, nonexempt employees will be paid at one and one half times their regular hourly rate for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek. Florida does not require daily overtime, so overtime is calculated solely on the 40 hour weekly threshold. Exempt employees are expected to work as much of each workday as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities and are not eligible for overtime or additional compensation.
For purposes of calculating overtime, the workday begins at 12:01 a.m. and ends at midnight, and the workweek begins at 12:01 a.m. on Monday and ends at midnight on Sunday. The Company may permit employees to make up time missed for personal obligations. An employee who wishes to do so must submit a written, signed request to Human Resources for each occasion, and the time must be made up within the same workweek in which it was missed. Make up hours worked within the same workweek will not generate overtime pay unless the employee's total hours exceed 40 for that workweek.
Only actual hours worked count toward computing weekly overtime.
