Paycheck Deductions

More actions

The Company is required by law to make certain deductions from your paycheck each pay period. These typically include federal income tax and Social Security (FICA) taxes. Florida does not impose a state income tax, but other deductions may apply depending on the benefits you elect. All deductions and their amounts are itemized on your pay stub. The Company will not make any deduction from an employee's wages that is not either authorized by the employee in writing or permitted by federal or Florida law. Annual deduction totals are summarized on your Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement.

It is the policy of the Company that the pay of exempt (salaried) employees will not be "docked" or reduced in violation of the salary basis rules issued by the United States Department of Labor or any applicable Florida wage and hour rules. The Company may, however, make deductions from a salaried employee's pay in ways that are permitted under federal and state wage and hour rules. Employees will be reimbursed in full for any isolated, inadvertent, or improper deductions, as defined by law.

Subject to applicable law, exempt employees may be subject to salary deductions only for the following reasons:

  • Absences of one or more full days for personal reasons other than sickness or disability
  • Absences of one or more full days due to sickness or disability when there is a plan, policy, or practice that provides replacement compensation for such absences and the employee is not yet eligible for the policy or has exhausted available leave
  • Absences of one or more full days before eligibility under such a plan, policy, or practice or after replacement compensation has been exhausted
  • Payment of actual time worked in the first and last weeks of employment, resulting in a proportional rate of the employee's full salary
  • Any unpaid leave taken under the Family and Medical Leave Act

If you have questions or concerns about any pay deductions, you may discuss and resolve them with Human Resources.
