5.1 · Safety in the Workplace
Each Employee's Responsibility
A safe workplace is built through teamwork. Every employee, supervisor, and manager is expected to think defensively, anticipate unsafe situations, and report unsafe conditions right away to a supervisor or to Human Resources. Each of us is responsible for our own safety as well as the safety of those around us, and safety awareness should be part of how we work at all times.
The Company maintains an Injury and Illness Prevention Program to support a safe work environment. The program is available for review by employees and employee representatives at the front desk.
To help foster a safe workplace, please observe the following precautions:
- Notify your supervisor of any emergency. If you are injured or become ill at work, no matter how minor, report it to your supervisor immediately. All work-related injuries and illnesses must be reported promptly.
- The use of alcoholic beverages or drugs during working hours will not be tolerated. Possession of alcoholic beverages or drugs on Company property, at schools, or at patient residences is prohibited. Employees may use prescription medications only as directed by their physician and only when such use does not interfere with job performance or otherwise violate Company policy.
- Use, adjust, and repair machines and equipment only if you are properly trained and qualified.
- Know and follow proper lifting procedures. Get help when lifting or pushing heavy objects.
- Understand your job fully and follow instructions. If you are unsure of the safe procedure, do not guess. Ask your supervisor.
- Know the locations, contents, and use of first aid and firefighting equipment.
- Follow Company policies that promote a safe and healthy work environment.
A violation of any safety precaution is itself an unsafe act and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including discharge.
