Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Job Description

Overview: As a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), you will work under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) to implement behavior intervention plans and provide direct one-on-one therapy to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities. Your role will involve implementing behavior reduction and skill acquisition programs in various settings, such as homes, schools, clinics, or community settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Behavior Plans: Implement behavior intervention plans developed by the supervising BCBA to address problem behaviors and teach new skills.
  • Provide Direct Therapy: Engage in direct one-on-one therapy sessions with individuals with ASD or developmental disabilities, following the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Data Collection: Collect accurate and reliable data on client progress and behavior using specified data collection methods.
  • Assessment Support: Assist in conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and skill assessments as directed by the BCBA.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with the supervising BCBA, other members of the therapy team, and caregivers to ensure consistency and progress in treatment goals.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to caregivers and other relevant stakeholders on implementing behavior intervention strategies and techniques.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough and timely documentation of client progress, therapy sessions, and any relevant observations or incidents.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in ABA therapy.

Qualifications:

  • RBT Certification: Must hold a valid certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Some positions may require additional education or coursework in psychology, education, or related fields.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ethical Standards: Commitment to upholding the ethical standards and guidelines set forth by the BACB and adhering to the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

Physical Requirements:

The job may involve physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, and lifting, as well as working in various environments including homes, schools, and community settings.
