Volunteer Civil Service Personnel Leave
Although Florida law does not impose a broad private-sector mandate for volunteer civil service leave (Florida Statutes Section 110.118 provides paid leave only for state employees engaged in disaster response), the Company, as a matter of policy, will not terminate or discipline any employee who serves as a volunteer firefighter, reserve peace officer, or emergency rescue personnel because the employee takes time off to perform emergency duty. Employees who need to take time off for this type of emergency duty should alert their supervisor or Human Resources before leaving the Company's premises.
A "volunteer firefighter" includes any person registered as a volunteer member of a regularly organized fire department of a city, county, or district that has official recognition by the government of the jurisdiction in which the department is located, or of a regularly organized fire department of an unincorporated area.
"Emergency rescue personnel" includes any volunteer or paid officers, employees, or members of a fire department or fire protection or firefighting agency who perform first aid and medical services, rescue procedures and transportation, or other related activities necessary to ensure the health or safety of a person in immediate danger. Such personnel include those who work for: (1) the federal or state government; (2) a city, county, district, or other public or municipal corporation or political subdivision of the state; (3) a sheriff's department, police department, or private fire department; or (4) a disaster medical response entity sponsored or requested by the state.
All time off taken under this policy is unpaid, except that exempt employees will be paid when required under applicable law.
