Split Shifts

More actions

Split shift assignments are limited to qualified hourly scheduled employees. Once an employee provides their availability, the Company will assign work for which the employee is qualified. Hourly employees who have the time and qualifications to do so may be assigned more than one shift in a workday at more than one location. When an hourly employee is scheduled and actually works multiple shifts at multiple locations on a single day, with at least 91 minutes scheduled between the shifts (30 minutes of which is designated as a meal break), the employee will receive additional compensation equal to one hour's pay at the minimum wage rate then in effect. This is referred to as the "split shift" payment. The split shift will be noted on the employee's schedule, and employees must claim the split shift in the designated field of the time reporting record.

The split shift payment does not represent compensation for time worked. It is additional pay in recognition of the fact that the hourly employee worked more than one shift at more than one site on the day in question.

Any employee may decline to work a particular site or shift for good cause. Repeated cancellations by an employee, however, are disfavored and may result in an unfavorable evaluation, fewer shift offers, or other discipline up to and including discharge.
